Site Definition

It is very important that you follow these steps exactly as you see them here. If there are any mistakes you may not end up with the correct components for your site.

A Dreamweaver site is a way to organize all of your documents associated with a website. You can think of it as a project. You need to set up a site for each website you develop. Organizing your files in a site enables you to use Dreamweaver to automatically track and maintain your links, manage files, and share files. You cannot take full advantage of Dreamweaver features unless you define a site.

To get started, you can set up a Dreamweaver site completely or you can just start with the first step, setting up your local folder. You must at least set up a local folder before you start using Dreamweaver.

Dreamweaver has a built-in “Windows Explorer” that allows you to view all files within a defined site. It allows you to keep track of your files, easily insert images displayed on your pages and quickly link files, both within your site and found on the world wide web (www).

Try This:

To define a site,

Choose Site >> New Site

Choose the Basic Tab. Type MySite as the name for your site. Click Next

Select No, I do not want to use server technology. Click Next

Choose Edit local copies on my machine.

Click on the button. Navigate to the your folder, which should be found in

Click Next.

For how do you connect to your server technology, Select None. Click Next.

Click Done.

On the right side of your screen you should now be able to see any files or folders that exist within your site. This will allow you to easily open and link files. Just as with Windows Explore you can collapse or expand folders as you wish.
